Wildlife

May 16, 2007

Yesterday, walking with my son and dog in the warm evening, I saw a little creature running about near the old railway. I think it was a stoat and this is the third time I have seen one. I marvelled at how much wildlife I saw in Edinburgh. My son pointed out that Holyrood Park is the perfect place for little wild creatures. It is near enough civilisation for there to be plenty of food but there are plenty of rocks and gorse bushes to create shelter and hiding places, and no large predators to kill them.

The gorse bushes now smell wonderful in the warm sunshine. They bring back floods of memories of my student days in Aberystwyth where I used to go for walks in the gorse covered hills behind the town. It is so long ago and yet the memories feel as if it was only yesterday.

In just over a week we are going to a wedding in Hampshire and on the way back we will stop off in Shropshire where we are going to look for a house to buy. I'll be seeing some old friends from Aber days. I have not seen them for years and my son and husband have never met them. I'm really excited about our visit.
